It's a typically busy Saturday in the National Hockey League, with a dozen games providing a puck-filled night.
The action begins at 7 p.m. ET with seven of the 12 games.
The
Washington Capitals don't get much time to enjoy their 4-3 overtime victory against Carolina on Friday night. They'll be right back on the ice in Toronto for a game against the improving Maple Leafs (CBC, NHL Network-U.S.). The Leafs are coming into this one after a 5-2 loss at Boston on Thursday, but won their two previous games this week.
Carolina also didn't have much time to worry about Friday's game. The Hurricanes are in action at Ottawa. The Senators figure to get a warm welcome after a 2-0 win at Philadelphia on Thursday.
The
Buffalo Sabres, 2-1 winners over Chicago at home on Saturday, visit the
New York Rangers -- who won 2-1 at Buffalo last Saturday. Since then, though, the Rangers have scored just two goals in losses to Detroit and Chicago.
The Rangers' two local rivals are also at home. The Islanders return to the Nassau Coliseum after a five-game trip for a game against Boston, while the
New Jersey Devils -- 4-2 losers at home to Florida on Friday, get right back onto the Prudential Center ice when they host Philadelphia.
Like the Islanders, the
Atlanta Thrashers are back home after a road trip. They host the
Montreal Canadiens, who lost 3-2 at home to Pittsburgh on Thursday. The Thrashers are coming off a 4-2 loss at Vancouver that night.
In the last of the early games, Columbus is back home after a 4-3 shootout loss at Nashville on Thursday to host Anaheim. The Ducks couldn't hold a 2-0 lead at Detroit on Friday and lost 3-2 in overtime.
Florida will try for a two-win weekend when it visits Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Panthers will have to do better than in their first two meetings with the Penguins -- they blew 2-0 leads in both and lost 3-2.
The Wings will also go for back-to-back wins when they visit Nashville (8 p.m. ET), which has won its last two games and beat Detroit 3-1 on Nov. 23. Also at 8 p.m., San Jose has a quick turnaround after a 3-2 shootout loss to Dallas at home when it visits Phoenix. The Coyotes lost 3-2 in a shootout at Los Angeles on Thursday but are 5-0-1 in their last six games.
At 10 p.m. ET, the
Minnesota Wild will try for two wins in as many nights in Western Canada when they visit the
Vancouver Canucks (CBC). The Wild won 2-1 in overtime at Calgary on Friday while the Canucks had the night off after beating Atlanta on Thursday.
A half-hour later, the Stars hope the momentum from Friday's 11-round shootout win at San Jose carries into their game at Los Angeles. The Kings' shootout win over the Coyotes at the Staples Center on Thursday made them the first Western Conference team to reach the 20-win mark this season.
